In 1984, Wayne Alan Yost formed W. A. Yost Company in Paris, Texas. Mr. Yost (owner/operator) used scrapers to move dirt on flood control dam projects and all types of site work in Paris, Texas. During its early years, W. A. Yost Company had the capability of moving approximately 315,000 cubic yards of dirt per year.
W. A. Yost Company moved to Georgia in 1988 and began moving overburden in kaolin mines. They became incorporated in the state of Georgia in 1994.
In 1997, W. A. Yost Company changed its name to Team Excavating Company in an effort to recognize that there are many individuals that contribute to the success of the TEAM (owners, employees, families, other contractors, vendors and suppliers, communities, etc.)
By 2003, Ames McGill Barnett, Owner, and William Ash Barnett, former Owner, of underground utilities contractor Barnett Southern Corp., had purchased stock in Team Excavating Company. This conglomeration made it possible to perform all aspects of site construction. Please see the services we offer.
Team Excavating Company began using GPS technology on many jobsites (including roadways) 2004 in order to provide the most precise and efficient method of grading.
By early 2007, Team Excavating Company began working on the largest monetary project in Georgia Department of Transportation history ($192 million). Responsibilities on this project include grading, clearing, demolition, sub grade/base, graded aggregate base, etc. This project is also one of the first projects in which GDOT allowed the use of GPS (millimeter) rather than CMI. Less than a year later, TEAM began removing overburden for Bauxite mines in Alabama.
Today, TEAM is one of the 5 largest GPS contractors in the state of Georgia and, in recent years, TEAM has averaged moving over 9 million cubic yards of dirt per year between mining and grading projects with the capability to move much more.
